This is an introduction to the magic of the world around us, which is far more extraordinary than the magic of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. The individuals who gave rise to our Western world are presented as the great magicians they were: servants of Apollo, creators of a culture originally based on the knowledge that all laws and sciences have a divine source and are meant to remind us of our own immortal nature. The trouble is that, as soon as we forget what we are and where we come from, we unconsciously use a kind of magic in reverse to create this ordinary and familiar world we seem to walk around in.
